Open House and Class

There were about 20 prospective members at the Open House on Wednesday May 5th and it looks like about 15 of them are currently taking lessons in the evening. Lee Kline, Membership Director, planned it so that the first Saturday they will be pill bowling coincides with Belly Busters. So make it a point to bowl on Saturday the 22nd and welcome the newest members to the Club. You will be able to welcome them before, during or after bowling.

Correction

It turns out I was premature in announcing the "Bridge Ladies" collected $400 for Hospice. It turns out the correct number was $550. Way to go Ladies and once again, thanks to all who participated.

Fox Hill Tournament

Angela Carkhuff, Jesse Hadaway, Betty Steele, Betty Hamilton, Ron Macey, Cindy Cote

On "Tax Day", Thursday April 15 the Fox Hill, Mixed Triples Tournament Finals was held under the lights. Capping off the week of playing in the evening was the team of Angela Carkhuff, Jesse Hadaway, Betty Steele playing the team of Cindy Cote, Ron Macey and Betty Hamilton. Wow, six skip quality members playing in the finals. When the smoke cleared it was the team of Cindy Cote, Ron Macey and Betty Hamilton who prevailed.

Special thanks go to Jim Gingrich who filled in for the Klines who were bowling in the Playdowns.

Webmaster's Note

This will be the last issue of the Members Only web page until a member steps forward to take over the job. It has been fun, but I've lost my enthusiasm for doing the Members Only web page after writing it since 2003. It is time for me to step down. I will continue to keep the remainder of the web page up to date for the remainder of 2010, but if the Club is to have a web page after that, someone needs to step forward.

By the way, with the exception of the 2010-2011Calendar which I have just received, the remainder of the web page is current and I will update the Calendar in the next week or so.

SE Division Playdowns

There were 17 Mount Dora members competing in the Southeast Division Playdowns held last month. That is out of 28 competitors in total. I'd say the Club was well represented.

In the Woman's Pairs once again Angela Carkhuff and Jean Adams won and will represent the Division in Arizona in October. Marita Nierth and Bobbi Elwell were the runners up. The Women's Singles were won by Linda McDougall from Sun City and Bobbi Elwell won a tie breaker against Marita Nierth to take second place.

On the men's side, the Men's Pairs was taken by Abe Kaplan and Earl Shaner. The Men's Singles was won by Brian Smith and the runner up is Bud Ricucci.

Congratulations to all the winners and all of those participated.

Beth Forbes organized the bowling and played the game where the team members rotate positions. Everyone had an enjoyable day thanks to the team effort by the newly elected Club Officers and Board members.

Preliminary and Unapproved

MOUNT DORA LAWN BOWLING CLUB                       Minutes of Board Meeting      4-10-2010

The meeting was called to order by President Brian Smith at 11:45 a.m. Board members present were Vice President Beth Forbes, Secretary Mary Rooney, Treasurer Bill Schaefer, Games Director Dave Krueger, Social Director Ellie Macey, Grounds Director Ron Macey and House Director Ruth Pivonka.

Audience comments: Bill Forbes suggested that there should be some guidance given to new classes about tournaments. Some bowlers have been infringing on tournament directors by insisting that they only play a certain position if they play in a tournament. Dave Krueger has instructed the tournament directors to disregard such provisions. If you enter a tournament you play the position you are told to play by the tournament director. Bill suggested that this should be reiterated in the newsletter.

Jim Gingrich stated that if you wanted to see pictures from the Annual Banquet you could do so by going online to "http://www.homespun101.com" .

The minutes of the March 20, 2010 meeting of the Board were approved as written.

Treasurer’s Financial Report Bill distributed the Income/Expense report from 3/1/2010 to 3/31/2010. Total income was listed as $2,394.49 and total expenses as $7,814.60--the bulk of total expenses being USBLA dues.
